色の説明

純白（じゅんぱく）とは、全く混じりけのない完全な白色のことです。『真白（ましろ）』と同色。

純白とは、もともと色名ではなく「汚（けが）れがなく清らかな心。そのさま」のことであり、その言葉の出典は古代中国の『荘子（そうし）』まで遡ります。

色名として使われるようになったのは近年。「純白」という言葉の清廉潔白（せいれんけっぱく）なイメージから真っ白の呼称となり、近代文学などでよく見かけるようになりました。

和色の中には『月白（げっぱく）』『胡粉（ごふん）』『乳白色』『銀白色』『卯の花色（うのはな）』など白を表す様々な色名がありますが、中でも『純白』は白さを表す他に「純白のウェディングドレス」のように「清らかさ」の意味も込めて使われています。
