色の説明

珊瑚色（さんごいろ）とは、赤い珊瑚を粉末にした顔料の色で黄みがかった明るい赤色のことです。英名では『コーラル』『コーラル・ピンク』と呼ばれる色。古代中国から伝来した顔料に由来し、赤珊瑚の色を表した色ではありません。

我が国では珊瑚といえば「赤」というのが一般的ですが、顔料の『珊瑚色』は赤珊瑚を細かく砕いて作るため、珊瑚本来の色よりも色みが薄くなります。ただし、『珊瑚色』の中でも宝石の赤い珊瑚に近い鮮やかな紅色の場合は、別に『珊瑚珠（さんごしゅ）』と呼ばれました。
