色の説明

枯野（かれの）とは、冬枯れした芒（すすき）の原のような薄い黄褐色のことです。

『枯野』は重（かさ）ねの色に由来する古くからの色名で、『枯色（かれいろ）』とは同色とする説もあります。ただし、平安文学の「狭衣物語（さごろもものがたり）」にもその名が見られるように『枯野』のほうが古い色名であり、『枯色』はあとから派生したものでしょう。

襲の色-枯野重（かさ）ねの色では「表黄・裏淡青」の色目で、冬枯れした草木とわずかに残る緑を表しました。

また、他に「表黄・裏白」の色目もあり、こちらでは枯草に積もった雪や霜を表しています。

ちなみに、『枯野』の着用時期は冬。

草が枯れた荒野の風景は華やかさなど微塵もない物悲しいものですが、古来より我々日本人の琴線にふれるものがあるようです。だからこそ、色名になったり、歌や俳句に詠まれたりしたのでしょう。

そう考えると『枯野』の色は、日本人の心の中にある寂寥感（せきりょうかん）が漂う心象風景の一つを表現した色といえるかもしれません。
