色の説明

紅色（べにいろ）とは、紅花の濃染による鮮やかな赤色のことです。または色料の三原色CMYのM100％『マゼンタ』を指す場合もあります。別に「くれない」や「こうしょく」とも読まれ、「こうしょく」の場合はもう少し赤みの強い色になります。

平安時代からの色名で、中国の呉から伝わった藍（あい）という意味の「呉藍（くれのあい）」から「紅（くれない）」と呼ばれるように。なお、この場合の藍とは『藍色』のことではなく「染料」を表しています。また、さらに唐から伝わったという意味で『唐紅（韓紅）（からくれない）』とも呼ばれていました。

紅花（べにばな）

紅花はキク科ベニバナ属の一年草です。古代より紅花から抽出された色素は世界中で用いられ、日本には上代頃に伝来しました。平安の頃から盛んに栽培されており、紅花の花を摘んでから発酵・乾燥させた物が、紅色の染料や口紅などの化粧品、食品の着色料となっています。
