色の説明

花色（はないろ）とは、青系統の代表的な伝統色で強い青色のことです。奈良時代以前は『はなだ色』、平安の頃は『縹色（はなだいろ）』の色名で、江戸の頃より「花色」「花田色（はなだいろ）」と呼ばれるようになりました。現代でいうところの『青色』にあたります。

ちなみに、「花色」の名前は平安時代にも見られ、これはもともと鴨頭草（つきくさ）（露草（つゆくさ）の古名）の花の青い汁で摺染（すりぞめ）していたことに由来します。いつからか藍染（あいぞ）めに黄蘗（きはだ）をかけた色を指すようになりましたが、色名はそのまま残ったようです。

『熨斗目色（のしめいろ）』と同色とする説もありますが、花色のほうが少し明るい色になります。

江戸時代、花色は裏地や木綿などの色としてとても一般的な色であり、落語の古典演目にも『花色木綿（はないろもめん）』というが噺（はなし）があるほどです。※「出来心」の別名。
