色の説明

紺鼠（こんねず）とは、わずかに青色がかった暗い鼠色のことです。色名は文字どおり『紺色（こんいろ）』がかった『鼠色（ねずみいろ）』から。江戸時代に誕生した色で、くすんだ紺色である『紺滅（こんけし）』よりさらに青みが少なく、渋みが増した色となっています。

江戸の頃は「奢侈禁止令（しゃしきんしれい）』がたびたび施行され、派手な色が禁止されたこともあり、鼠色や茶色が「四十八茶百鼠（しじゅうはっちゃひゃくねずみ）」として大流行しました。人々はわずかな色の違いに名前を付けて、地味な色を「粋（いき）」に楽しんだのです。

この頃に生まれた鼠色には、色相の違いから派生した『臙脂鼠（えんじねず）』『紅鼠（べにねず）』『藍鼠（あいねず）』『銀鼠（ぎんねず）』などの他に、地名から派生した『嵯峨鼠（さがねず）』『深川鼠（ふかがわねず）』、人名から派生した『小町鼠（こまちねず）』など色も名前もじつにさまざまです。
